FLASHING THE DECLARATION Jockeyed by Lawrence Kaine
February Workout
Carlos and Lawrence had their fun moments as friends but fellow jockey's was quite difficult when they were in the same race. However, this was not the case only a workout together. The Unicorn Horn Series had already passed and it was time to go back to a normal routine. Carlos was riding Jazzasoleil, the bay daughter of G1 Jazzman out of Sun Chaser. This would be her first race into the juvenile season and just like her elder brothers she would be a fiery filly. Running beside her today would be Flashing the Declaration a son to known stallion Flash Limits out of Declarate. Lawrence Kaine was his jockey.
Jazza was entered in the Back In Black Maiden where she would face Impressionable and Speak Easy. Starting out as a front runner Jazza was expected to push the leaders until the middle of the race until she would fall behind to the mid pack to save her strength. Flashing The Declaration was entered in the Golden Start Stakes where their was five horses entered. He was also a front runner and wouldn't back down if given the chance. Both horses were trotting out onto the dirt track. "Back to the juveniles I see." Lawrence said aiding Flasher onto the right path. "Yes well I feel Jazza here already feels like a fully grown mature adult." Carlos said patting the filly down to ease her confidence.
"Uh huh sure. Let's take them about half way just to get warmed up don't want them to over do themselves their first time." Lawrence said putting on his goggles with a nod from Carlos. They immediately got to work when Flasher decided to pull forward first with Jazza slowly picking up speed. The bay would simply not give in to the colt's charms and wicked ways and would ignore his gait as she ran up the middle of the track. Flasher liked the rails for some reason and so he held his position strong at the rail pulling through the first turn with hesitant speed.
Jazza did not like the colt to move ahead of her and so she bumped the colt with a little bite towards him. Flasher was as hot headed as his sire and he nipped at Jazza along the way. He began to push her more before the back stretch approached and began to pull away with dignity. Jazzasoleil whinnied with the thought of losing and keeping her energy savored she pulled back to let Flasher the lead saving her time to take him down with a boom. "That's it girl nice and easy." Carlos said pulling the reins back gently feeling her slow down to see Lawrence and Flasher speed away at normal galloping pace.
With the right time and the half distance arriving, Carlos then sped the filly up and she took off like her dam before her to fight for her win. Jazzasoleil was not your typical filly. She was a strong competitor and while she seemed lazy she was quite the intelligent filly. She pushed herself passed the colt where her head barely passed him to the proper point. Flasher moved swell and Jazza played him for a fool. The horses then came to a halt by the orders of their jockey's and Jazza then walked herself off the track Flasher prancing after her.
"Good run their Lawrence, Flasher is a true sprinter." He said to look at the black colt and his jockey. "I think he will be good for the sprint dirt Triple crown next year. Jazza has some guts you should also aim her for the crown." Carlos replied as he then offered to take both of the horses back to their stalls while the other would go put the inventory in on how the two ran and gaited correctly.
